There were many music groups of the 80s and there was a wide variety of NEW Wave rock music. Many groups succeeded and many did not. The music artists from the 80's had the advantage of more exposure through MTV, VH-1, and other small television shows which aired their music videos. The more exposure the groups got the more they succeeded if they were good, or had good videos and performed well.

New instruments were also added to the mix in order to get the new sound the artists were after. Synthesizers, electric keyboards, and drum machines became very popular in the 80's rock music.
There were many 80's music groups which did not last long. Some were only around for a few years, others were here for many years, then split up and then reunited and are still performing today.
