Aerosmith

Aerosmith

is an American rock band which was formed in 1970 by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton. They decided that Boston, Massachusetts was a good base for their band. The three had met before in the 1960's but had not decided to form a band at that time. Steven was from Yonkers, New York, Joe was from Hopedale, Massachusetts, and Tom was from New London, New Hampshire. The group was known as the Bad Boys of Boston. They were also regarded by some as America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band. Other members recruited were, Brad Whitford (guitar player), and Joey Kramer (drummer). Aerosmith released their first debut album in 1973. They followed it up with many albums in the 1970's. Their style of music was hard rock. Drugs seemed to get in the way and caused a decline in their career and popularity. Joe and Brad left the group but the band recruited replacements and continued. In 1984, Tim Collins, Joe perry’s manager, reformed the original Aerosmith and Collins helped the members get over their differences and also overcome their addictions to drugs. The group has remained sober for over 20 years now. Their success since then has surpassed their 1970's fame.

The band has sold over 150 million albums with 65.5 million in the United States alone. This makes them the best hard rock band of them all. They also have a record of holding the most gold, platinum, and multi- platinum albums by an American band. They have released 28 Top 40hits on may charts around the world. Nine of them were number 1 hits. They also received 4 Grammy Awards and 10 Video Music Awards. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
