Baltimora

was a popular Italian dance project which performed in the late 1980's. Jimmy McShane was the frontman for the project. Jimmy was a n Irish dancer and singer. The songs for the project were mostly written by Maurizio Bassi and Naimy Hackett. Jimmy did write the lyrics to the track, Survivor in Love. The only hit that Baltimora ever had was the one hit single, Tarzan Boy. This was also their first single in 1985. Tarzan Boy was a big success and reached the Top 5 on the charts in Italy and also on the charts of many European countries which include Germany. The single was also successful in the United States, via EMI. The song stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six months and peaked at number 13 in the spring of 1986. The groupís, Living In the Background, was released in Europe in late 1985 and arrived in the United States a little later. The album had only 6 tracks but since the single from it, Tarzan Boy, was so successful, it influenced the record company and they released 3 more singles from it. These singles were Living In the Background, Woody Boogie, and Chinese Restaurant. There was another track from the album that stood out and it was called, Pull the Wires.

Baltimora performed on the United States television series, Solid Gold, and this also helped the success of the group in middle America. In the spring of 1993 the single, Tarzan Boy, came back up on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It was a remix and reached number 51. This was due to its appearance on the movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.

The frontman of the Baltimora project, Jimmy McShane, died of aids in 1995. The project managed to release 2 albums plus the album , Living In the Background, was re-released on a CD in 2003. The other album they released was, Survivor In Love and it was released in 1987 in Europe only. The project also released 9 singles between 1985 and 1987. They were Tarzan Boy, Living In the Background, Woody Boogie, Chinese Restaurant, Juke Box Boy, Key Key Karimba, Survivor In Love, Global Love, and Call Me in the Heart of the Night. The last two singles were released on 12" singles. There were also 4 music videos released and they were for the sings, Tarzan Boy, Woody Boogie, Key Key Karimba, and Juke Box Boy. This is just another of the many examples of groups that were not around long but made their mark while they were here. It is groups like these and other that keeps the music world alive.
