Eric Carmenwas born on August 11, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio. Eric is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and keyboard player. Eric achieved his greatest success in the 1970's. He first began his career as a member of The raspberries. While with this group they had a major hit called, Go All the Way. Eric then went on to pursue a solo career. He released such hits as All By Myself, and Never Gonna Fall In Love Again.
Eric was interested in music from the time he was 2 years old. He used to intertain his parents by doing impressions of Johnnie Ray and Tony Bennett. When he was only 3 he was in the Dalcroze Eurythmics program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He took violin lessons when he was six. By the time he was 11 years old he was playing the piano and thinking about writing his own songs. When he was in high school he was singing in rock and roll bands and playing the piano. He taught himself how to play the guitar by purchasing the Beatles chord book. He learned how to play the guitar in 4 months.
Eric joined the band, Cyrus Erie, while he was in college. The group recorded several unsuccessful singles with the Epic records label. Cyrus Erie, Wally Bryson, Jim Bonfanti, and Dave Smalley are the other members of the group. They were previously with the band called, The Choir, which was a popular Cleveland band and had released one minor national hit called, Itís Cold Outside. The Cyrus Erie band split up in the late 1960's. Carmen, Bryson, Bonfanti, and Smalley teamed up to form The raspberries. The band was a rock and roll style band which were a big part in the beginning of the power pop style of music. The Raspberries split up in 1975 and Eric went on to pursue a solo career. He opted for the soft rock and power ballad style of music.
Eric released his first two solo singles in 1976 and they were both chart hits. One was called, All By Myself, and hit number 2 in the U. S. And number 12 in the U. K. The second one was Never Gonna Fall In Love Again, reached number 11 on the chart. He continued to release albums and singles up until 2000 but he continues to place songs with other artists. Eric has released a total of 14 albums and 20 singles. Not all of them were hits but he has a large fan base who will remember his music for years to come.
