Haircut 100was a pop rock band which was formed in 1980 by Nick Heyward (vocals and guitarist), born as Nicholas Heyward on May 20, 1961, in Beckenham, Kent.. The group was short lived and broke up in 1984 but briefly reformed in 2004. The groupís most successful single was, Love Plus One. Other members of Haircut 100 were Les Nemes (born Leslie Nemes, on December 5, 1960, in Croydon, Surrey, Graham Jones (guitar player), was born on July 8, 1961, in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, Phil Smith (sax player), was born on May 1, 1959, in Redbridge, Essex, Marc Fox (percussion and vocalist) was born on February 13, 1958, and Blair Cunningham (drum player), was born on October 11, 1957, in Harlem, New York.
Haircut 100 only lasted a few years but they were successful right away after they began performing. Their first single, Favorite Shirts Boy Meets Girl went to number 4 on the U. K. Charts in 1981. Love Plus One was their nest single hit and it reached number 3 in the U. K. And also hit the Top 40 charts in the United States. The group were just getting started good and headed for success when Nick Heyward decided to leave and pursue a solo career. Marc Fox took Nickís position as lead singer and in 1984 they released the album called, Paint and Paint. The group split up shortly after that.
The Haircut 100 reunited in 2004 to perform in an episode in VH1's series called, Bands Reunited. The group is considering a reunion to release a new album but it has yet to be recorded. Time will tell if it happens or not. They all have other commitments but Nick says that 2 weeks is all they need to create a follow up to Pelican West.
Nick Heyward had a moderately successful solo career after he left the band. He released the album, North of a Miracle, in 1983 and from it came his first single, Whistle Down the Wind. Next came Postcards From Home in 1986, and I Love You Avenue, in 1988. He released the album, From Monday To Sunday, in 1992, and it was considered by some to be one of the best pop albums of the year. He released the album called, Open Sesame Seed, in 2001. Heyward released several other albums since then and the latest was The Mermaid and the Lighthouse Keeper, which was released in 2006.
Haircut 100, as a group, only released 1 album, Pelican West, in 1982, and it reached number 2 on the U. K. Charts. They also released 4 singles which all charted in the U. K.. They were Favorite Shirts Boy Meets Girl, in 1981 and it reached number 4 on the U. K. Chart. Love Plus One, released in 1982, reached number 3 on the charts. Fantastic Day reached number 9 on the U. K. Charts in 1982, and Nobodyís Fool reached number 9 in 1982.
