Kim Carneswas born on July 20, 1945, in Pasadena, California, and is an American singer songwriter. Kim began her career as a member of the New Christy Minstrels, in 1967. Kim met and married Ellingson with whom she also wrote most of her songs. She and Dave formed the duo, Kim and Dave in early 1070's but they were not successful. Their song, Nobody Knows was played in the movie, Vanishing Point, while the credits were being shown. Kim began releasing albums in the early 1970's and her self titled album, Kim Carnes, released in 1975, contained her first charted hit, Youíre A Part of Me. The song reached number 32 on the U. S. Charts. Later in the year she released the single, More Love (her cover version of the Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song), and it became her first Top 10 hit single. The song reached number 10 on the pop chart and number 6 on the Adult Chart in the U. S.. Kim released, Bette Davis Eyes, in 1981and it went to number one on the U. S. Singles charts and stayed there for nine weeks, as well as being a hit worldwide. This brought her album to number 1 for four weeks. The single song became the number 1 hit song for 1981 and was number two hit for the 1980's. It won the Record of the Year Award and Song of the Year Award in the 1982 Grammy Awards. Kim was nominated for Best Pop Female. Kim sang the song for Bette Davis as a tribute to her shortly before her death. The song was also used in an advertising campaign for 7-Up, in 1982, but the lyrics were altered to fit the need. Kim has released several other albums and songs but she never again reached the success she had with Bette Davis Eyes.
Kim has wrote songs that have been sung by country artists such as, Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers, Deana Carter, Kevin Sharp, Sawyer Brown, Suzy Boggus, Pam Tillis, Tanya Tucker, Vince Gill and Reba McIntire, Barbra Streisand, Pam Tillis, and Ronnie Milsap. Kimís song, Iíll Be Here Where the Heart Is, was used in the movie Flashdance. She was invited to perform on USA For Africaís 1985 famine relief fundraiser single, We Are the World.
Kim lives in Nashville Tennessee with her husband and she has two sons. Kim has released a total of 14 albums and 23 singles, and has written many more songs for others to record. Her last album released was in 2004 and it was called, Chasiní Wild Trains. She may still be writing and who knows, she may someday record another album.
