Matthew Wilder

was born as Matthew Weiner, on January 24, 1953, in New York City, New York. He is an American singer and can be recognized most by his hit in 1983 called, Break My Stride. In the 1970's Matthew was a part of the duo known as Matthew & Peter, which was a folk group in Greenwich Village. He moved to Los Angles in 1978 and began to sing for commercials on television and was also a backup singer for Rickie Lee Jones, and also for Bette Midler.

Matthew released his debut album, I Donít Speak the Language, in 1983, and the record went to number 49 on the Billboard chart. The single, Break My Stride, was from the album and it reached number 5 on the singles chart. Next came his successful single hit, The Kidís American, hit the Top 40 Billboard chart, in 1984. The next album released was, Bounciní Off the Was, and was released in 1984, but it did not gain as much success.

Matthew did not have a very successful music career as a singer but he went on to write songs and also became a record producer. He was the producer for groups such as, No Doubt, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, 702, and Joanna. He was the singing voice for the character, Ling, and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Original Music Score, for his work on the movie, Mulan, a Walt Disney film, in 1998. Matthew has done production work for Mig Ayesaís self titled album in April, 2007. He has also helped produce the album for Hayden Panettiereís upcoming release. Matthew has also teamed up with Zippel again, to provide the music and lyrics for the musical comedy, Princesses, which is an update of Frances Hodgson Burnettís novel, A Little Princess. The show played at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, Washington, but it has not appeared on Broadway yet.

Some of Matthew Wilderís solo work has been, I donít Speak the Language (1983), Bounciní Off the Walls (1984), I Donít Speak the Language/ Bounciní Off the Walls (1999), and some of his production work has been, Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt (1995), Mulan (soundtrack, 1999), Mig by Mig Ayesa (2007), and All Day With It by Illscarlett (2007). Matthew has made his mark in the music industry in several areas and will continue to do so for a while yet. He will be remembered by many for his hits and also for his contributions in movies and in musical plays. He may even spread his wings even further in the future. Only time will tell. Matthew has gained many fans during his musical career.
