They released I Can’t Wait in 1984 and it was a big hit on the Portland radio stations. This got the Attention of Atlantic records and they signed with them. Atlantic records had them re-record I Can’t Wait and issued a new version of it in February, 1986. They had two hits right away. I Can’t Wait went to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and number 1 on the Dance Music/Club Play Chart. The second one, Point of No Return, also topped the dance chart and reached number 28 on the Hot 100 Chart. The songs were both on the album, Poolside, which made it on the Top 200 Album chart. It made it to number 27 and sold over 500 thousand copies. It also received a gold record and a RIAA certification on October 2, 1986. Their last song to reach the pop chart was, Should I Say Yes, which hit number 41. The had two more dance hits, Are You Lookin’ For Somebody Nu, which made it to number 2 on the dance charts in 1988. The career for Nu Shooz was short but very successful. There are many musical groups that were never this successful in such a short time. Many groups never hit it big at all. It takes not only talent, but persistence, patience, knowing or meeting the right people and contacts, and some money will definitely help. There are many great singers but it takes a special breed to make it to the top. But no one ever succeeded by just giving up so if you don’t succeed the first time, try, try again. Do not give up your dream until you have given it your all. Who known, your name and picture may be in the headlines one day as a successful music artist. There are different styles of music and it is necessary because everyone has different tastes so there is a vast area to explore until you find your style in music. |
