is a Swedish musical duet who sings pop music. The members of the duet are Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. The duet was one of the most popular music groups in the 1980's and 1990's. They were also one of the top bands worldwide with their sales and fame. The duet was influenced with musicians such as Blondie, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and Aretha Franklin. Both of the singers were well established artists, in Sweden, before they came together as a duo and as Roxette. They not only sang, but they were also both song writers. They met in 1979 and both of them were members of different groups at the time. Marie went from the group called, Strul and Mama’s Barn , also known as Mama’s Children, then she went solo. Per Gessle performed with his own band known as, Gyllene Tider. In 1981 the two sang together for the first time when Marie sang with Gyllene Tider and was featured as a background vocalist for a Swedish language album the group released in 1982.

While Marie was working on her first solo album, she also did more background vocal work and also some solo work for Gyllene Tider and their album called, The Heartland Café. The Heartland Café sold over 45,000 copies in Sweden. Marie released her second solo album in 1985 and received the 1986 Rockbjornen Award for Best Swedish Female Artist. It was suggested by the recording company for Marie and Per to sing together and record a single in the English language. They released the single, Neverending Love, in 1986, and the song reached the Swedish Top 10 chart.

The duo had performances and concerts which attracted tens of thousands of fans in places such as Buenos Aires, Frankfurt, Mexico City, Paris, Rome, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Stockholm, and Sydney. They released the record called, Tourism: Songs From Studios, Stages, Hotelrooms, and Other Strange Places. Their biggest hit was, It Must Have Been Love. There are statistics which say they sold over 75 million copies of their albums and singles. Roxette released 4 hit singles in the U. S., two number 2 single hits, and some other Top 40 hits. After 1994, they were not hears from again. The duo has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) because they had 2 platinum albums which were, Look Sharp! (In 1988) and released in the U. S. In 1989, and Joyride, in 1991. They also had two gold singles which were, The Look, and It Must Have Been Love. They have released 17 Top 10 hits in Sweden and were very popular throughout South America, South Africa, and Europe. They released a total of 17 albums and compilations, and 8 videography.
