T'Pau

was a rock group from the 1980's which was formed in 1986 and their name came from the Vulcan Star Trek Character. The group consisted of Carol Decker (singer, songwriter), Dean Howard (lead guitar player), Ronnie Rogers (rhythm guitarist, songwriter), Tim Burgess (Percussionist, drummer), Michael Chetwood, (keyboard player), and Paul Jackson (bass player). The group released their first debut single in 1987 and it became their first hit. The single was called Heart & Soul. The song was a flop in the U. K. In the beginning but it became a hit in the U. S. And reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song had previously been featured on a Levi Jeanís commercial just before it became a hit. After that it also became a hit in the U. K. And reached their charts. A year later, the band had their biggest hit, which was a balled, and was called, China In Your hand. The song stayed at number 1 in the U. K. Charts for five weeks, and was also a big hit in some other countries but never reached the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the U. S..The band had a number of , not so popular, hits which made it the Top 40 charts in the U. K.. Some of those were, Valentine, Sex Talk, Intimate Strangers, Iíll Be With You, and Secret Garden. They band released the album called, Bridge of Spies (called TíPau in the United States), in 1987, and the album was a best seller and won a few British music industry Awards. The band could not keep up their good fortune and split up in 1991.

Carol Decker still performs and makes appearances on TV shows, such as, Hit Me Baby One More Time, Just the Two of Us, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and the Weakest Link. Carol Decker reformed the band in 1998 with a new lineup and the band still works live shows on a regular basis. Their former guitar player, Ronnie Rogers, is now playing with the group called, The Ronaldos. Carol Decker and Ron Rogers released a new single in 2007, which marked their 20th anniversary as the TíPau group, and it was called, Just Dream. The single was released exclusively as an internet download and it is available on iTunes and other web sites. TíPau recorded rock versions of other artistís songs such as The Monkeyís, Iím A Believer, Petula Clarkís, Downtown, and Left Bankeís, Walk Away Reníee. Ron did all of the lead vocals in these songs. The songs were also released as CD single bonus tracks. The band released a total of 8 albums and 19 singles during their career together.
