PacmanThe Japanese title for the game was Puck Man and it did not receive much response in Japan when it was first released in 1980. It wasn’t until the name was changed to Pac Man and a version released in the United States that it grabbed hold and began to become so popular. The people in the United States were glad for the change from the space games. Marketing Executives were very surprised that year because they expected the game Rally-X to be the chosen favorite of the year so they overlooked Pac Man and the game Defender as well. The game caught on immediately and became an overnight success. Pac Man is known as the greatest selling arcade game of the time and sold over 350,000 units. The company, Midway, released the game in the United States and also redesigned the cabinet it was installed in. The Pac Man game later became a portable desk top game, then later became a game for different video game systems as well as on the internet. The object of the Pac Man game is to take Pac Man through the maze and eat as many dots as he can. After all of the dots have been eaten, the player is taken to the next stage. Sounds easy doesn’t it? Well, the Pac Man has to stay away from the four ghosts that roam the maze. If one touches Pac Man, he dies. The player is allowed more than one life. There are four large flashing dots. These are energizers and if Pac Man eats one he can temporarily eat the ghosts. These are just some of the secrets of the game. |
