ABC
One of the more popular new wave bands of the early '80s, the British group ABC built upon the detached, synthesized R&B pop of David Bowie and Roxy Music, adding a self-conscious, campy sense of theatrics and style. Under the direction of vocalist Martin Fry , the group scored several catchy, synth-driven dance-pop hits in the early '80s, including "Poison Arrow," "Look of Love," and "Be Near Me." Toward the end of 1982, the group began concentrating on the United States. Their American success was helped greatly by the fledgling MTV network, which aired videos for "The Look of Love" and "Poison Arrow" frequently, making both singles Top 25 hits in the spring of 1983.
Between You And Me
(released 1985)
So trouble comes strolling through the door
But anything worth having’s worth fighting for
Fiction or fact you’ll supply the plot
We’ll both be featured - like it or not
Yes I guess you think I’m stupid and brutal
I should confess that the feeling is mutual
It’s not between the devil and the deep blue see
Not between the truth and hypocrisy
Not between freedom and democracy...
But between you - between you...
Between you and me
Between you - between you...
Between you and me
The stars and stripes meet the hammer and sickle
Not for honour but roubles and nickles
It ain’t fisticuffs, it’s a full scale war
Your secrets no secret anymore
Yes I guess you think I’m stupid and brutal
I should confess that the feeling is mutual
It’s not between the devil and the deep blue see
Not between the truth and hypocrisy
Not between freedom and democracy...
But between you - between you...
Between you and me
Between you - between you...
Between you and me
So trouble comes strolling through the door..
